MoU Somalia-Kenya misuderstood

In its preliminary submission of ECS to the CLSC, Somalia attached an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) it agreed upon with Kenya. The MoU states that both States realise that there is potential dispute between them with regard to continental shelf. The two neighbouring States have not yet delimited continental shelf boundary between them but are aware that the ECS submission may cover the potentially-disputed area. However, the two agreed not to object each other’s submission conerning ECS.

Interestingly, this MoU is also viewed in a different context by Somali and also officials of the Somali Government, that the transitional federal government of Somalia compromises the territorial integrity and ceding land to Kenya, which does not seem to be the case. Read more about this here.
