Japan's submission

On 12 November 2008, Japan submitted its proposal of exteded continental shelf to the United Nations Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf. Please see its executive summary here.

A Hydrographer, who was extensively involved in the Japanese Continental Shelf project, jokingly said that if you divide the total amount of money spent for the project by the number of pages of the executive summary, one page may cost around USD 15 million. Yes, I believe this. The continental shelf project is undoubtedly expensive. I then jokingly said to him, “I will not calculate how many Indonesian students can go to a university degree with only one page of the executive summary” 🙂
